The second-year photographers of The Institute of Art and Design have released their traditional photographic calendar for the year 2011. The new black and white calendar, called Alavalla Maalla, gives a taste of the look, feel and language of the vast land on Finland.
The photos tell small stories of twelve different regions of this Nordic and remote country. The places picked at random, unknown beforehand to the photographer and each smaller than the next are pictured in their famous summer attire. The calendar advances from the southern archipelago to Lapland, and from eastern Slavic front to the marine west, and covers here and there in between. The calendar gives the viewer an intimate access to the passing of the long luminous days of summer in Finland.
The price of the calendar is 20 euros (plus 2,50 euros for shipping in Finland or 5 euros for shipping abroad). You can order your copy here: www.alavallamaalla.com
Gone are the days when no one knew what was going on in the photography department at the Institute of Design. Chicago.fi is a student managed project which has been in the making since late 2009. It showcases photography made in Institute of Design in all its diversity.
In the future Chicago.fi will be the main channel on the internet for showcasing and promoting photography made by the students of Institute of Design. It also allows you to keep track of the latest news, exhibitions, and publicications we are involved in. Eventually Chicago.fi will also expand to other medias than the internet.
At the moment we are proud to show the works made by the people behind the project and some others have already joined in. The amount of artists and works shown will increase to cover most of the photographers in Institute of Design. Future photography students starting their studies in Institute of Design will automatically get an invite to join Chicago.fi.
We hope that you enjoy our photography and keep returning for more.
